The retro grooves of "Gamble" kick off Tokimonsta's debut, MIDNIGHT MENU, on a gentle note, and the dubbed-out horns on "Sweet Day" only reinforce this sense. But she doesn't shy away from messier sounds, as the Asian-inspired clatter on "Sa Mo Jung" shows. This is an album that wouldn't have been out of place during the heyday of Mo'Wax, but it still carries the current bedroom aesthetic. Not everything works, of course: neither "Death by Disco" nor "Lucid Waking" quite come together, but the bouncy electro of "Cheese Smoothie" or darker chug of "Solitary Joy" helps paper over those weaker moments. "Simple Reminder" lets the beauty take over, before "Questing" and "Bready Soul" put it into a haze. "Madness" returns to the retro feel, and "Lovely Soul" takes a dreamy turn. You'll want to order another dish from this menu.

Solid vinyl with nicely-textured, sturdy sleves. Recommended! word word word

Nearly perfect pressing, not that noisy but a tad bass shy (each side is over 20 minutes long...) and has loud clicks at the beginning of side B.
Completely flat, and comes in a poly-lined sleeve... Excellent overall.

Does anyone know why Death by Disco isn't on the vinyl release?
