"Like Monteux, Reiner was not one to sentimentalize Tchaikovsky, and his famous interpretive "reserve" serves this particularly feverish piece well. This disc may not have the thunderous dynamics and floor-shaking bass of the great RCA's but it is still quite lovely sounding - high in transparency, rich in tone and texture - in spite of the slight deficiency of dynamics. Imaging is weighted a little to stage right and, as a result the firsts on the left occasionally seem to have been left hanging. But the sound of those strings - and the somewhat bunched-up brass - is ravishing. Sonically it is not quite as good as LSC 1901 but is better than JM's (relatively) low rating of 10." -Jonathan Valin, Living Stereo: The RCA bible, a compendium of opinion on RCA Living Stereo records, 1993
