A musical based on the Blackmore novel Lorna Doone.
The musical was presented at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool and then a year later at the Charter Theatre in Preston.
Interestingly the show was booked to perform in Ashton Gardens, St Annes, but the theatre was destroyed by fire.
The original idea belonged to Jim Thomas a local musician.
He composed a score for the musical and then Margaret Anderton wrote the libretto as well as producing and directing the shows. Jim was the musical director, with Jerome Anderton designing the set and lighting.
Recruitment for the big cast of more than 70 came from the cream of talented amateurs from most of the existing societies. The group name was given Team Theatre for the production.
The show was an amazing success. A long-playing record was made from it and BBC North West TV recorded the event.
