The Verbrilli Project takes on a new persona in Telefuzz, whose debut album SLEEP showcases his more downtempo compositions. And immediately, "Hindenburg" floats in the sky and never, thankfully, explodes. "Chem-Trails" also drift above, though the more apparent percussion keep them from completely dissipating, while "The Great Gag In The Sky" brings in a hint of live drumming to keep it grounded. A sample of a profane rant livens "The Needle And The Homage Done" for a moment, and the relatively perky "Voyage Of The Dawn Wigger" is buoyed by its trumpet line. But as accomplished as these tracks are, all together they begin to bleed into one another and don't quite distinguish themselves. The rattling snares on "One Hundred Light Years Of Solitude" certainly help, as does the delicate closing of "Tales Of The Dubonic Plague." The spare, country twang of "Dream Of The Dendreons" swings gently, and a touch of soul slips onto " If The Vice Is Right..." Quite nice overall.
