This overlooked acid gem by Luke Vibert is great fun all around, but it's a shame that they didn't press the fantastic iridescent 8-bit funk spectacle of "Assid" onto any slab of vinyl.

I'm always impressed with Vibert's ability to span such a wide variety of the electronic meta-genre. Most of this record is ancient-sounding acid samples reconstructed to sound fresh.

The basslines are mostly wild and fun, with the genius subtly changing from one sound to another over the period of a track. The entirety of this album could be one long club or disco set, since every piece is entrancing as the previous and great for grooving. Like your classic acid soundz, this record is full of repetition on all levels, but the subtleties and nuances are what I find rewarding as I listen to "Benefist."
