My playback device is a Nakamichi Dragon (some refer to it as *the* cassette tape deck) which has an auto azimuth control and plays everything in the best possible way. This cassette is clearly badly mastered, louder parts are distorted (Pussy Control, 319, etc .), while quiter parts sometimes sound canny and thin. I don't know the original cassette, but this one is sadly not very much fun for the ears - musical wise it's great, of course!

What a terrible quality! Right peak full red, left peak too low

I still buy cassettes and have a decent deck for playback and digitisation where I can lessen any issues with various dials. This, the European RSD edition, sounds bad. As other reviewers have said it's overloud so a lot of the heavier sounds hit audio amber or just deep into the red. The problem is baked into the mastering - Pussy Control, for instance, is really horrible. The Estate have been doing some wonderful work with the archive but this is a disappointing misfire.

I haven't heard anything like the comments below. Mine seems fine.

This reissue sounds like it was dubbed from a low res MP3. Guess the original masters were lost and they got the songs off a dodgy torrent site? If not then the person who mastered it is completely incompetent. I have plenty of cassettes in my collection and they have way more bass and boom than this tinny tape. :(

Background fuzz during quiet sections across the tape. Not unbearable, could be my system or the fact that cassette tapes aren't the best if you're looking for that ultra clean sound. Otherwise pretty decent release. Not a lot of dynamic range, but the actual content on here still bangs. Worth it just for the Club Mix edit of Pussy Control.

My copy is terribly distorted and impossible to listen to. All peaks on red. What has happened to this release? Same problems with the original cassette in the 90s?
