I bought 2 new copies of this in 1978 where the local “Greek Connection Disco” had in heavy rotation. The clubs German female DJ also worked at the local music store that sold them and it was her favorite. Best of happy times with this beast of a funk tune.

This version omits the 'SP' after '(D-123-A) / (D-123-B) on the right hand label text below 1978 Stax Records as per this version: https://www.discogs.com/The-Bar-Kays-Holy-Ghost-Monster/release/1111705 otherwise exactly the same labels & etchings.

Now this is a great version to own- not merely due to being the promo to the original 1978 Stax releases, but also due to being unmistakable & easily defined. The notorious bootleg with wonky photocopy labels doesn't feature 'promotional copy not for sale' on the labels. The original purple label commercial 12" is not as easily available as you might think- many sellers 'mistake' the bootleg for the original. Here, theres no room for 'mistakes', both from the labels & the custom sleeve...

If your wondering why there are so few of these re-issues listed here, its because the rest are masquerading in the OG sections, listed by the visually impaired & chancer's trying to palm them off as OG's!! Be vigilant...

Pay attention & be aware of this 2000+ bootleg: http://www.discogs.com/The-Bar-Kays-Holy-Ghost-Monster/release/3685366 It shows 3 inner circles on the label- 2 are photocopies of the original 12" release, plus one actual/physical small circle. The labels are made from wonky poor photocopy scans. Etchings are D-123 A / D-123 B. Buyers, don't get stung, & sellers- use your eyes & stop listing these in the OG sections, twice now I have received this cheap booty passed off as an original & laughed when opening the parcel... Infuriating. If you are attempting to buy any of the original/early pressings, be double sure it matches the listing image on the page you bought it from.

That break still sounds way ahead of its time 37 f**ing years later. Masterpiece.
