Love and Rockets hearken back to the sense of humor that occasionally accompanied earlier recordings as Tones On Tail (eg "Twist," "Go," "Slender Fungus"). "The Bubblemen Are Coming" is a minor, goofy pleasure with a slinky bassline, reverbed percussion and vocals about the listener's desire to become a Bubbleman going for a whirl on the planet Girl. Fun, frothy, but less than forgettable, it will stick in your head (to your eventual annoyance). "The Bubblemen Rap" is another story, an idiotic proto-rap that proves grating within seconds. The "dub" of the "rap" doesn't improve beyond cutting out most of the the execrable vocals. "Bees" does not actually appear on the promo vinyl, but as I recall is no more than several minutes of buzzing bee sounds. While its appeal is likely limited to fans of Tones on Tail and Love and Rockets, "The Bubblemen Are Coming" is (by a slight margin) worth owning for an occasional spin.
