Very nice cover of Gill Scott Heron's "The Bottle" for The Christians, a band from Liverpool, England. Probably their greatest worlwide hit before they split up in 1995. I still love this track a lot: it's very moody, and well balanced. But the remixes are not as strong. The Groove Corporation Vocal Mix remove a lot of the elements of the original, reducing the melody to a bassline and a synth string most of the time. The Ray Hayden mix is a Jazzy, R&B rendition of the song that have the same defect, making it a standard filler in cocktails or elevators. The Sound Foundation Dub, might be the only potent club mix to play to a crowd. It keeps most of the vocals and melody to a standard House beat.
I own this single mainly for the original version, which is a strong mixture of funk, pop and soul.
