The Fall are a very intimidating band to approach for the first time due to their vast discography. I had heard of their legendary status as a band fronted by the erratic leader Mark E. Smith and his every changing sound and bandmates. But I had never actually listened to the music before seeing that Superior Viaduct was reissuing their early releases. The label hadn't disappointed me in the past, so I decided to give it a whirl. The listen is rather relentless. As others have said, they packed a lot of music on each side of this record. Despite that fact, the sound is very rich and lively. As expected, Superior Viaduct has another winner on their hand. Recommended.

I have the 1st german pressing on line records and the sound level is relatively quiet due to squeezing 30 mins on each side of vinyl but it does sound clear and detailed. As some have pointed out this release is a louder pressing than the original but this has been achieved by squashing the dynamics out of the music with - to my ears at least - way too much compression that is detrimental to the overall sound. Hopefully one day someone will spread this over two LPs and it will play like the best Fall album should play. In the meantime i'm sticking to the original (and handling with kids gloves as it's too expensive to replace!)

After listening to this reissue I immediately sold my noisy original one. I encourage you to do the same before it's too late !

How do they fit 60 minutes on two sides of a record and maintain good quality?

Finally a great sounding pressing of Hex on vinyl! I own 2 original Kamera pressings and the reissue on Earmark and this easily beats both of them. I haven't heard an original on Kamera that wasn't noisy regardless of condition and i owned a few. I was hoping for a x2 LP reissue because of the running time of the record but they did a great job!
