What stands out for me is the production quality. Some other records released around this time felt like they had been cut from a dodgy C90 cassette, but this is a crisp clean production enhanced by being a single 33 1/3 track on each side of the 12. As a result the sounds seem to engulf you, the pounding beats but also the breaks. I'm still loving the flanger effect that gives Universe a proper trancey feel at certain points, but it's still a hardcore/rave track at heart. If you want to know what tribal gathering or spiral tribe raves were like without taking the drugs, this is the track for you :)

'Pioneers Of The Universe' is an absolute monster.

It’s a chameleon of a track, featuring sections of techno, tribal, industrial, acid, rave, and even hip hop, although it is perfectly suited to the hardest of trance floors as well.

The track starts off somewhat quietly with a rave “make some noise” intro, but then the thundering industrial beats kick in, and from there it grips you like the worst nightmare you ever had. Just when you think it can’t get any harder, it goes ahead and does it. Just stand back and feel the full force of this epic classic. Every sound on here is futuristic and designed to make you feel uneasy. This track is like a trip to a Bladerunner / 2000AD future where things have gone very wrong and unspeakable danger attacks you from every direction.

‘Pioneers Of The Warped Acid’ is as you would expect a crazed acid version, with a bit more of a kick about it, but lacking the epic nightmare qualities of 'Pioneers Of The Universe'.

This release was produced as an anthem for legendary dance music promoters ‘Universe’ who ran the brilliant Tribal Gathering Events and Final Frontier / Voyager nights in the 1990s, and perfectly captures their sound.

Not for the faint hearted.
