Like many British rock acts from the mid-sixties, The Kinks began as rhythm & blues group to then a basis for hard rock. As a next step, the company announced the albums as complete rock operas full of unpretentious working class stories, in which both influences of The Beatles as British music hall music doorklonken. The biting social commentaries of Ray Davies and the primary guitar playing of his brother Dave were a special and influential combination. The intermittent (especially in America extremely successful) survival of The Kinks remained always depends on the explosive relationship between the brothers Davies.
