"The result is a serious interpretation of the music - as opposed to the sophistry of the Swingles" says the sleeve notes. But whatever the Swingles subtracted from Bach, they gave a lot in return (audience excitement, for a start). Playing the music on two electric guitars and electric bass guitar loses most of the gently compulsive flow of the composers' intentions and, personally, I cannot hear what's put back in exchange. This is too interesting an experiment to be labelled a failure, but I doubt if it is on anyone's list of most-loved LPs.
