The Pretenders are an English indie rock group around the American singer, guitarist and songwriter Chrissie Hynde, who with a mixture of punk, new wave and pop music (mainly in the eighties) scored a series of hits, including "Brass in Pocket", "Back on the Chain Gang", the Christmas song "2000 Miles", "Don't Get me Wrong" and "I'll Stand By You".

Chrissie Hynde was born in 1951 in Akron, a provincial town in the U.S. State of Ohio where they later the song "My city was gone" about wrote. Of the United States in the late 1970s she moved to England where she in 1978, in the dying days of the British punk movement, The Pretenders.
