My copy was not in a very good shape when I bought it but I still raved listening to this dadaesque synthesis on the origins of rock and roll. The Third Reich and Roll resembles 'Meet the Residents' sonically but it is more structured and more trashy. Many hits of the 1960s charts are cut, perverted and brilliantly put together. After the initial shock emerged a strange feeling. These deconstructed versions seemed to balance things. No, everything wasn’t beautiful and pretty. Life also harbored a dark side that The Residents were striving to explore. As the writer Charles Bukowski has often said, “Someone has to kick Mickey Mouse out of our head.” Although Bukowski listened mostly to classical, he probably would have approved the artistic approach of The Residents.
