Like "Theme", "Wilmot" isn't one of Weatherall's better moments. It's certainly better than "Theme", but it's similar in the way it grabs on to a horn sample and holds on for dear life, even to the detriment of its listeners. Not a bad experience, but the vocals tend to meander and annoy as well. Lots to love and hate here. But also like "Theme", the real gem on this record is the B-side. "Rumble Summons" is just a beautiful example of what made the Sabres special: weird, spooky, moody techno coming at you at 100 miles per hour. "Rumble" is a good word for the track as the bass just shakes your guts and smacks in you in the face with a menacing/metallic drum sound. The A-side hasn't aged all that well, but the B-side sounds better than ever.

If you like Dub, then you will fall in love with Wilmot the moment you hear that bass line kick in, a head nodder for sure. Call it Dub Reggae, or Dub Reggae with a Techno influence, whatever, the bass just plods along sweetly. Andrew Wetherall is a lover of all things Dub, if you were ever lucky enough to hear his Kiss FM residency, then you would know. Techno and Dub Reggae go together so perfectly, show me a Techno head that doesn't like Dub Reggae, they go hand in hand. Nearest comparison would be Bandulu.
