After the massive success of Coldplay there seems to be something changed in the guitar. It is suddenly no longer forbidden to blatantly intimate songs and with ordinary instruments such as the piano and the acoustic guitar in to colors. The Thrills from Dublin add a banjo, pedal steel and beautiful polyphonic vocals, making the link with the westcoastpop of The Beach Boys and the country rock of The Flying Burrito Brothers laid fast. The used song structures further betray influences of typical indie-favorites like Pavement and The Smiths, in whose singer Morrissey has found the band a loyal fan. The debut album So Much For The City contains a number of promising songs (the opener, Santa Cruz, One Horse Town) but don't know about the whole length to Captivate. It is to be prices that The Thrills like to keep but not all their songs small compositions have irresistible melodies, which is a condition for such an approach. The Thrills offer a fresh sound but the promise on this debut is not yet fully met
