The Velvet Underground & Nico (3) ‎– The Velvet Underground & Nico

Genre:
Style:
Year:
Notes:
There are three versions of the back cover of the original American release:
1st - Has an image of actor Eric Emerson projected upside-down on the wall behind the band.
2nd - The actor's image is covered by a large black sticker.
3rd - The actor's image is airbrushed out.

Historical info: The actor Eric Emerson (2) protagonist of some multimedia films projected behind the group during the EPI, filed a lawsuit against the record label for the non-payment of the rights regarding his image that can be seen upside down on the back cover of the first version. So between March and April 1967 the album was suddenly withdrawn from trade and shops. After a few months, the album was redistributed in a few copies with a huge sticker that covered the top of the offending photo and that you can see in this release.

Some sellers of this version state, it was never issued with a banana sticker. That is incorrect - I do have a copy with the banana sticker intact.

Sound quality is fine, especially considering the recording, but I really love the sleeve. Heavy and pretty. Love it!

All these 名盤LP 100選 series are just impeccable. I own a few of them, and they are all perfect replicas on ultra high quality 200gram Japanese virgin vinyl painstakingly recreated the way they were intended to be. Are there better sounding versions? Perhaps, but I for one am entirely satisfied with the high quality of these replicas and the attention to detail that have gone into them.

I have one copy very similar, but under the last M of MGM of both label it says MADE IN USA and there is not the stereo symbol. Also says "Manufactured in the U.S.A. and Distributed by Polydor Ltd.

I purchased a copy today for $15 second hand from a record store, Mine is a slightly darker yellow too with the faint marbling/ streaks.. The old man came up to me as he saw me trying to work out which pressing it was and said it was a ‘Scorpio’ release/ bootleg (but not). Apparently Scorpio made exact reproductions (down to the matrix etchings) of many records and they would be sold all over the world. There’s no information on discogs regarding Scorpio releases but I have found forums and even a brief interview in which he talks about his business.. It’s a bit confusing as it blurs the line between a seller knowingly selling you a Scorpio replica (or bootleg of you will) or a official copy.
