I was around in the late 70s and 80s and working in record stores when Theo Vaness was fresh on the market. "Bad Bad Boy," his second album, is by far the best engineered LP of the disco era. Back then in 1979, this was my very favorite Eurodisco recording and I still cherish it. The tune "As Long As It's Love" is a great raunchy gay disco ballad worthy of comparison to any Village People song. I am still puzzled why Theo Vaness tunes didn't become huge hits around the world. I think this record won an award as best disco album of 1979 in the trade magazine "Record World" (may have been "Bulletin Board). In any case, it's a rarity that deserves to be heard again. The Theo Vaness sound is somewhat comparable to Patrick Hernandez in "Born to be Alive," but with a rougher rock guitar edge and one of the most unusual, plaintive, and unforgettable smoky gin tenor voices in music history, no matter what the music genre. The "Bad Bad Boy" LP was put together by the same great team at Boona Music Productions that produced Madleen Kane recordings. Find it and give it a listen!!!
