One of my favorite records in my collection. Beautiful pressing, and sounds incredible!

Bought this version second hand (NM-) today at a local record store. It's spinning right now for the second round.
I first heard the album digital and was taken with the overall production, the used echo- and reverb types as well as Dustin Kensrue's raspy voice and lyrics. But as todays music the digital is pretty compressed hence loudness war and what so not. That said - I primarily got it on vinyl because of the overall sound of the record and the wish of more dynamics and clarity.

Sadly I have to say I'm pretty disappointed how this pressing sounds. The cymbals are distorting badly in louder parts - when it gets heavier even voice, snare and guitars. Interestingly more on side A than B. This gets louder towards the end of each side (I have vinyl with way more minutes on each side but no inner groove dist.). The bass sits - like the digital version - pretty low in the mix. The kick however is very dominant and deep sounding. It has an too early roll off in the highs - less detail and brilliance as you hope to get from a vinyl.

The pressing has a very slight noisefloor but maybe that's just the static (I don't have a proper way to deeply clean my records yet). Overall a pretty compressed and loud master. A tiny bit more dynamics like the digital if I remember right (got to check that again) - but nethertheless. They clearly tried to make this as loud possible.

The packaging on the other hand is very nice. Thick booklet with sewn spine, the cover is printed inside out on sturdy paper and contains a digital download as well. The paper feels really nice - like recycled.

I'm gonna stick with this pressing for now and get the CD next. Maybe a get a bit more detail out of that. If not - I'll have to wait until a better pressing comes along.

It was available for a very short time on the Thrice website for pre-order. Once this "smoke" color (looks like grey/black marble) sold out, they went to plain black 180g. That being said, it is an absolutely phenomenal album. I couldn't be happier with their return!

Where was this version available? I can't find any signifiers in the preorders.

This is most definitely not "translucent" smoke. It's basically a grey marble. Stock photo is incredibly deceiving.
