Probably his hardest album to "get into," but well worth the effort! It may just be a masterpiece...

Some stunning performances within a great all round LP.
Some of the material, as ever with Waits, is totally unique.
Russian Dance is a totally unique recording that is worth the admisson money alone!
Certainly not a start point for any Waits beginner (it is not an "instant" catcher), but for anyone who "gets" Waits, this is simply an essential purchase.

Whatever Waits' take, the elements remain the same, humans are broken machines searching to make some sense out of a cruel world containing plenty of suffering and madness, no money, little food with any escape found through drink and fairground women with serious physchological problems. Marvelous.
