The Tony Williams Lifetime ‎– Emergency!

Oddly enough on some versions the track "Something Spiritual" is named "Something Special". Sometimes even both names appear, either on labels or artwork.

Ugh when this was released and I read that this was remixed from the 8 multi track tapes I was thrilled. But in 1991 like a few other remixes of the era for a remix it's dynamically dead. They definitely did not have the right technology then for remixing multi track tapes didn't use any EQ on this it's as flat as a piece of wood and has no dynamics. The original mix on LP or the 1997 or 2011 reissues are far better. However I know it was the times and just probably who were involved. The remix of Turn it Over which is the opposite dynamically of Emergency also has it's share of over mixing. The Turn It Over remix is very strange. I heard he also did the Emergency one but was never released. I wish he did like the other. At least it wouldn't be as dead and sucky as the 1991 mix. Calling Bill Laswell

It took me awhile to understand and enjoy this one, and I know now that there are dead stretches in some of the improvisations, but the sum of the eight tracks is a great album. Notes of rock, jazz and underlying noise (guitar feedback, contrarhythmic drumming, the swells of organ bass) come together to form a music that Miles Davis attempted to emulate until he discovered the power of riffs and grooves. Here Tony Williams channels primal sound. Tony says the Beatles were his one of his inspirations for a "rock"-oriented sound; I don't think this is anything like them, but if the Beatles are partly responsible for "Emergency!" then maybe I should listen to their stuff more often.

I can't work out how to do it, but please would someone correct the last track from "Something Special" to "Something Spiritual". Thanks.

Can you verify that this is the correct catalog number? I think it should be 25-3001. Thanks.
