Tunng's COMMENTS OF THE INNER CHORUS starts with the clattering and plucking of "Hanged," before the glitchiness breaks in as percussion, while "Woodcat" sounds more traditionally folk, at least until its midway point, where it brings in other voices. The rhythm on "The Wind Up Bird" keeps it lively. Indeed, oftentimes, the merging of electronic music and folk have usually leaned more on the electronic side, but here, the folk element takes precedence, lending the album an invigorating texture, from the acoustic guitar & house stomp of "Stories" to the gentle thud and sunniness of "It's Because... We've Got Hair." But "The Engine Room" takes the album out on a darker note, with a deep, gravelly beat. Let the inner chorus sing more!

I'm not usually a folk fan, but "Comments Of The Inner Chorus" is so good it is the exception to that rule. The talent in songwriting, instrumentation, and musical execution is clearly evident from the first listen. Although some might find the sound of the tracks to be similar and complain about it, I think the consistency is exactly what makes it such a great and enjoyable album from start to finish. While the UK is experiencing a neofolk explosion powered by The Big Chill events, Tunng comes out at the top of its class.
