Stellar release, this couple of years have been blessed with most of my favorite Ulver albums being reissued in vinyl (black metal trilogy, Perdition City, and this one). Only complaint here is the PVC outer sleeve, ditch it and replace with a regular polypropylene one.

Hello,
does this repress sound any good ? Picture discs always have a bad reputation.

Shadows of the Sun is a path to be followed in complete solitude in those moments - right before falling asleep - when time seems to slowdown. It’s a mysterious ocean of muffled and suffused sounds, a cosmic floatation guided by deep and warm Garm voice, with drops of piano, foggy strings and electronic sparks. There is no trace of Perdition City nocturnal trip hop or Blood Inside intricate experimentation. Shadows of the Sun has got a new sensibility, more reflexive and atmospheric, close to David Sylvian intimate art rock and to kosmische musik trips. Unlike 70s German experimental rock, Ulver hypnotizing wall of sound doesn’t annihilate the listener, but it envelops him, inducing a meditative state of mind. A music that evokes physical and mental spaces, within which we have to venture, to face our deepest fears, and to touch our finitude.

One of my favourite album of all time.Great atmospheric, poetic, dark and luminous tracks from the most creative band of the decade, for me i think.beautiful mix between experimental, ambient and pop music.

Listening to this album it's impossible to remember that Ulver was a black metal band. All is so ethereal, impalpable; keyboards and strings seem to create a soundtrack for an infinite journey. The sound is close to David Sylvian music, but the voice is even more expressive and magnetic. Opposing electronic music to classical instruments, they write delicate symphonies for an intimate end of the world. Musically there's also something from Death In June's Kapò, but within the use of acoustic guitars. Apocalyptic folk even represented the principal influence for their masterpiece called "The Marriage Of Heaven And Hell".
