Great CD! Bad news for the iPod-copiers though because the tracks are sequenced (slightly mixed) and the whole CD is recorded as one track ...

Masterpiece. Played this when my child was born. Hope this gets played at my funeral. If not I’ll come back to haunt you!

Just heard a younger Detroit DJ (Annie Hall) play Grav Arch 10. Nice to hear the younger crowd give props to old school stuff. Wish I new more about each of the individual track. From the liner notes I know +8 records (Aquaviva) and Orbital was involved but to what extent and which tracks, I'm not sure.

recent notes from Mark Gage

"the pre-1990 tracks from themes from vapourspace were initially recorded to metal cassette tapes and any after 1990 were recorded direct to digital on DAT tapes. the album was segued in digidesign's sound tools (predecessor to pro tools).
so here's the track breakdowns for themes from vapourspace…
1. anaximander's time stick - 1983
2. gravitational arch of 10 - 1993
3. cosmic dance of shiva - 1992
4. degaussing atmospheric charges - 1985
5. spacewalk - 1993
6. paradox of time dilation - 1983
7. vista humana - 1993
8. theme from vapourspace - 1992
9. vapourdome - 1993
10. opiate tea - 1992
11. outer galactic gravity arc - 1993
12. anaximander's time loop - 1983
notes
*"anaximander's time stick" & "anaximander's time loop" are the same track, repeated to show the completion of a cycle.
*the intro loop of "gravitational arch of 10" is NOT philip glass. it is a sample taken from a recording called "humbuzz" by my friend dan brumley.
*"cosmic dance of shiva" contains a voice sample loop of carl sagan saying the song title (of course from the COSMOS series).
*"spacewalk" is actually "Lush" by Orbital. i did 4 remixes, 2 very much like the original and 2 very much like "spacewalk". London/ffrr declined my mixes. i opened 40 times for Orbital on 3 tours, so they know."

One of my all time favourite albums, it flows so perfectly and has such a clear yet warm sound. From beautiful ambient sections to banging analogue freakouts 'Themes...' has it all. An album from a golden age of techno long-players with a lot to teach most current techno producers struggling to make interesting albums.

A very mindstretching experience that is, to the hassle of a listener, segued into one track. The tracks all sound similar, so it does sort of feel like one long song. The tracks are enjoyable, although somewhat irritating or aggravating to some extent due to the long sweeps.

One of the alltime best techno LP's to date, IMO. The album is meant to be heard from start to finish. Classic techno tracks 'Gravitational Arch of 10' and 'Vista Humana' are featured on this release. Intelligent, ambient techno full of analog warmth.

Raw, simple, generally uninspired early ambient techno yet it does have it's high points. When that happens this is ecstatic. Unfortunately you can't skip through the 12 tracks so I don't play this much. It reminds me of Asmus Tietchens late 70's albums eg Biotop, cheesy and childlike in nature compared to his masterpieces in the late 80's. I need to hear more of Vapourspace, did they mature?
