In 1995, Kenny Dope scored big with "The Bomb", a serie of replayed samples taken from "Streetplayer" by Chicago. This compilation gathers the first tracks to follow the "Bucketheads" formula. We all know "Disco's Revenge"; a classic track with that famous filtered effect to open the dance. E-Gore add some more filtered disco fun with "I'm Surprise", a delirious funky anthem using "Let No Man Put You Asunder" by First Choice. To my ears, it still is the best track involving that sample (for stylistic variations, check out "Break Of Dawn" by Rhythm On The Loose, or "Remember" by Joshua). Kenny Dope makes his appearence on the last track with an edited version of "I Wanna Know", brilliant take of an Atmosfear track. Johnny D De Mairo and Nicholas Palermo Jr. from Henry Street Records are sampling "Dance With You" by Carrie Lucas (2-10: "The Captain") before Armand Van Helden re-used the concept in "You Don"t Know Me" in 1999. Some Canadian House pioneers are also featured here: Nick Holder and PJ delivers their classic groovy vibes, while Southern Comfort will certainly convince you to "Disco" at last.
If you like funky house and want references: this compilation is perfect. You will dance to exhaustion with a funny smile.
