The Australian Festival of Italian Song first took place in 1967 on the occasion of visit to Melbourne of Guiseppe
saragat, the then President of the Italian Republic.
It was the first musical festival in Australia and its tens of thousands of dollars raised has helped many Australian and Italian charitable organisations.
