★★★★★★★★★☆ (9/10)
From time to time it is useful to broaden the horizon. We take a step into the Synthie universe out there, following the path by the Berlin managers of the "Death # Disco" club events. Mostly previously unreleased tracks or unreleased versions were gathered to present a high quality profile of today's trending Minimal Electro/Cold Wave scene.
21 titles outline what's going on right now, mainly up-tempo songs which one would expect listening to a club sampler. Often heard Minimal Synth amateurs were sorted out, only renowned bands are featured. Real dance floor smashers amongst it, like the opener "Eleven Pond - Sex Robot". The New York City guy started out in the 80s and plays live shows yet again nowadays, apparently with lots of fun. An amazing tune. In the same vein is track #4 by the London based boy band "Ulterior", which know how to write a great party song. The Technopop" tag, which they apply to themselves is not far fetched. Next the sound swings to "Cold Wave" as played by „Xiu“ and „//Zoo“, it beams the listener back to the 80s in an instant. Reminiscent of bands like "Trisomie 21" or "Crawling Chaos" acclaimed peers of that genre.

The Electro-Punk duo out of Paris "Frank (Just Frank)" and Berlin natives "Ill Winds", stirring up the mix with their lively contributions. The first ones remind me of the French group "Charles De Goal", unfortunately still a insiders' tip, and will probably remain one. "Lebanon Hanover" is debatable, the vocals are to brittle according to my taste.

The announced "Post Punk" is kept for the end of the CD for "The Lost Rivers", and an acoustic cover version of "Heartland", of course written by "The Sisters Of Mercy", performed here by "Kiss the Anus of a Black Cat". They fail to add something new to the original, due to the monotonous singing.
The final song is by American "King Dude", which is busy touring Germany for the last years, a short rough Folk-Rock entry, totally out of line.

The Minimal Synth/Cold Wave genre is not redefined on the album, but skillfully re-interpreted and a great pleasure to listen.
