"Dimension 5 - the fifth dimension. Also, the radio wave. Light. Infrared. Heat. Or to Bruce Haack and Esther Nelson, "the dimension of imagination" -- and to those "turned-on" and tuned-in enough to believe in imagination, the dimension of possibility. It was in this dimension that the disc you are holding was born. Now in order of appearance:

Bruce Haack -- A lonely only-child who barely saw the shadows of the Depression and World War II scrape across his sleepy mining town in Alberta, Canada. He would grow up to become a father of electronic music and gifterd composer/songwriter who could scribble Carnegie Hall onto a laundry list of life achievements right next to Julliard dropout.

Haack's musical career careened through the 1950s -- he would write radio ditties for the Dot and Coral record labels on one day, experiment with enough tape loops, violins, sopranos, and electronics to transform a Belgian ballet commission into a treatise on mechanical music on the next. He was an unparalleled innovator who constructed synthesizers and soundtracks befitting the zenith of the space-age. He was also an unbridled creative force in need of just enough bearing to keep from self-destructing.

Esther Nelson and Dimension 5 -- A children's dance teacher and lyricist. Also, first mate at the helm of Haack's creative energies. In 1962, Nelson and Haack met and formed the Dimension 5 record label. Together, they would write and record more than ten children's records over the next twenty years. Haack's reverse-entropy dancescapes and arcade blips and blizzards played Funk Brothers to the hip-hopping lesson plans of Nelson's Diana Ross -- with the exception that Haack's groove radiated from somewhere deep in the heart of schematics most electronic engineers at the time would feign to understand, and Nelson's covergirl starlet was more accurately a cloistered grade-school teacher caught in sin-wave oscillation between Grimm's Fairy Tales and Gray's Anatomy.

Dimension 5 led children on anthropological expeditions into the deepest grottos of army ant hills; landed them in the seat of honor at arthropod luncheons; snaked their bodies around trees like late-afternoon shadows; and do-si-do'd their hands and fingers at desktop hoedowns.

Haack's music machines even took their turn in the spotlight, barking analog aphorisms in response to verbal cues in "O.K. Robot," or playing the part of automaton orchestra in Haack and Nelson's appearance on Mister Roger's Neighborhood. By the time of Haack's death from heart failure in 1988, Dimension 5 met with relatively no commercial success, but its records could be found on classroom turntables and in libraries across the country.

Dimension Mix -- Southern California-based multimedia artist and producer, Ross Harris, and Eenie Meenie Records have invited many of today's most innovative recording artists to revisit the Dimension 5 recordings. In the process of producing the "Dimension Mix" record, one thing has become very clear: the Dimension 5 sound is as fresh and exciting today as it was thirty years ago. Likewise, Dimension 5's commitment to the betterment of children is as important today as it was a quarter century ago. In keeping with this legacy, Eenie Meenie Records will donate a portion of all proceeds from the sales of "Dimension Mix" to Cure Autism Now and other Autism-related charities.

Autism affects one in 166 children. Until now, very little has been understood about this developmental disorder that impairs a person's ability to communicate and socially interact. Cure Autism Now believes that with the right funding, research, education and awareness, it is possible to prevent, treat, and ultimately cure Autism.

It is in the spirit of Dimension 5, the dimension of imagination and the dimension of possibility, that we can find a cure.

This album is not only a fundraising adventure for Autism-related charities. We also endeavor to shed light on the wildly beautiful and complex nature of the Autistic mind, different than the so-called normal perception in function. The Autistic mind houses many great insights onto vistas of human comprehension and compassion. If we can rise to the challenge, to facilitate the Autistic individual to communicate just a portion of these insights, we stand to gain more than we could ever hope to offer in return.

Love and a rainbow,
Ross Harris"
