June 28, 2017If you like space disco in general - here's my review.
French project Dirty Sound System wanted to present collection of European and American disco tracks from the70s-early 80s with Cosmic sound. They wanted to present space disco as a genre of electronic music not just as music for discoteques. Important thing for them was that European space disco influenced Detroit techno of the 80s. So they choose tracks for this comilation according this trend.
There are light poetic easy listening tracks such as "Who" by Odyssey (Vangelis), "I Need Sombody to Love Tonight" by Patrick Cowley & Sylvester, "Atlantis" by John Forde. But majority of the tracks here - monotonous, dry, hypnotic beats and loops. So it's not a kind of "Saturday Night Fever" compliation. It's for real lover of electronic music. In the credits of the tracks you'll find such names as Klaus Schulze, Rodelius (Kluster, Harmonia), Konrad Schnitzler (Tangerine Dream), Tony Carey (Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow) and Peter Hauke. Remastering is very good, but the main problem is that dry and hypnotic music doesn't work with romantic and relaxing disco tracks.
So this compilation will be much more interesting for the lover of electronic music in general than for the person who is interested in catching of forgotten juicy Space Disco singles.
Anyway - much thanks for Dirty Sound System for this compilation!
