SOUND QUALITY IS TERRIFIC:

"FOLLOW ME, AMANDA LEAR" (Wally's Mix) Is the ORIGINAL MASTER TAPE truly lost? This is clean as a whistle. Sounds Great!
SOME PEOPLE, CLIFF RICHARD (Original 12" Mix) Sounds Great!
NEVERENDING STORY, LIMAHL (Finally! the Original Import Mix) Sounds Great!

THAT IS ENOUGH REASON TO GET THIS "2CD SET" WHILE YOU CAN.

"LOVE IN THE SHADOWS, EG DAILY" (GET THE "THIEF OF HEARTS" SOUNDTRACK VERSION OR BETTER YET GET THE "DISCONET EDIT"
"RISE UP, PARACHUTE CLUB" (GET THE RCA U.S. 12" DANIEL LANOIS MIX 6:50) THE MIX ON THIS CD HAS NO SOUL
EARTHQUAKE, THE FLIRTATIONS (GET THE ORIGINAL "PROTO RECORDS" IMPORT RELEASE) ALL THE MIXES AND EDITS THAT FOLLOWED THE PROTO RECORDS RELEASE KILLED THIS GREAT SONG

FIGURE THE REST OUT ON YOUR OWN.

CHEERS! ARMANDO

A fantastic compilation which introduced me to classic "HI-NRG" tracks, many which were before my time. Ever since I've been a collector of many tracks like this - I find them way more interesting than the ka-ka that's being released nowadays. Odd to see a few newer tracks on here as well, but when listening to the discs all the way through they just seemed to go so well together as a set. Coincidence maybe?

At first I questioned some inclusions - mainly, starting the compilation off with Ab-Fab. It wasn't really a "classic" quite yet (only a couple years old), and presented as just the 7" version, on a compilation advertising itself as a 12" collection. After seeing the "this is the only version that doesn't appear as the 12" mix" warning, I was left wondering why they even bothered to include it then at all. But in hindsight, I guess it's not a bad thing to boast the fact that you got permission to put a PSB track on your compilation - and the length did allow it to fit nicely in the tracklisting and make the CD just about 80 minutes long.

I also never really got why Chyp-Notic's version of NC2U was so popular, even back then I thought it was dull as dishwater. Seems to flow nicely with this tracklist though.

The other real "WTF?" moment was the inclusion of the Parachute Club track (Thanks, Cancon!), as it does not fit in with the rest of the content at all. Sure it was big in Canada, but that's about it. I couldn't imagine this being played alongside any of these other standout tracks in a club in the 80's. If SPG needed to fill their Cancon quota, they could have at least picked something that wouldn't stick out like a sore thumb - perhaps Nancy Martinez' "For Tonight", or her alter-ego Jade's "I'm Gonna Get Your Love"?

Was also a very nice surprise to get a the Hot Tracks remix of the Eartha Kitt track (though the audio quality of this version compared to the original version is lacking). Since it was mis-labeled as just the 12" Mix, I was looking at the CD credits in the store wondering how it could have been 10 minutes long? I remembered the original 12" was just over 6 minutes or something.
