Listed as Hold It Down No1 but it is the one and only Hold It Down as the magazine project has came and gone. This was an ambitious fanzine produced, edited and financed by Desy Balmer (me), Gavin Faherty and Malachy Clerkin and the generoisty of local advertisers, like Dermot Doran, Michael Sullivan (Digiprint), and several others. The magazine had six issues and made one or two good points.

The CD is replete with tunes from Nice & Nasty records and friends of Desy Balmer. Lazer Caps, Heiki and Kinder Atom are part of the Canadian Nice+Smooth collective; Lackluster's remix was on Dublin's Psychonavigation but Esa aka Lackluster went on to record for Nice & Nasty. Sitting Pretty is an amazing slice of abstract techno right out of the Aphex twins handbook. Andy Vaz was just emerging from the Berlin scene at the time and his deep minimal groove epitomises the Berlin sound for the following few years. Derek Carr is a Nice & Nasty stalwart and both Hek and FCG show why his fusion of classic Detroit techno and ambient techno has him among the European elite. The CD is completed by Rob Spectrum aka Spectrum is Green and Heretics of Disko which was Desy Balmer and Rob Spectrum. With remix duty from Matthew bushwacka and Arne Weinberg this CD and its artists represented the sound of European underground at the time, it definitely portrayed the diverse sound of Dublin techno and Irish techno and with the magazine the whole package epitomised the Zeitgeist.

The music is cool, diverse and pure electornica. There are big house vibes, deep techno grooves and some funky abstract and esoteric ambient sounds that all flow in and out of each other like a tide ebbing in and out of a tranquil beach with the sun spiking through the clouds and the light glistening off the waves.
