This collection (alongside Various - Michigan Mixture Volume II) makes a good companion to the two Michigan Meltdown comps that are out there (to be found on Coney Dog Records).

Not really garage punk as such - more like late '60s hard rock/ pre-heavy metal going into proggy psychedelia.
Take a look at some of the band names / track titles and you can see the territory we're in. It's all the kind of late '60s /early '70s grungey, heavy stuff that I usually don't get too excited about - but I end up buying this type of comp in the hope of finding a couple of decent or at least interesting tracks, perhaps more in a rougher-edged garage punk mould.

The Pitche Blende tracks are pretty good. Orange Wedge turn up with a much-comped track (previously from Pebbles and Highs In the Mid '60s). The Glass Sun song has also been comped many times before. It's this track which sums up the problems of the era for me. The music is good but the vocals let it down... bit too 'manly' and 'heavy'. I prefer mid '60s teen garage screech, yowl and clatter. This collection does have its moments though (sittin' on the fence nicely with this review).
