Update update!: The new LPs arrived and sound great. You can buy this next pressing of the black LPs with confidence.

Update: The replacement has the same problems. LITA advised me that the pressing plant is issuing replacements. They asked for my address and told me to keep the packaging, as the plant will just be shipping the LPs.

My copy finally arrived today (black vinyl) and has the exact surface noise problems on disc 1 that others are having. Going to go for a replacement and report back, but based on these comments I’m not hopeful...

I love the music on this comp and I'm thrilled to have it, but it's a narrowly YMO-centric take on the subject matter. There's only so much you can do in 16 tracks but many tracks cover the same territory while the more expansive jazz/funk 70s (Haruko Kuwana) and synth noir 80s (Mariya Takeuchi) sounds are omitted. At the same time, my favorite entries in the Hosono-style Pacific exotica catalog, Sandii and Water Melon Group, aren't here either. Overall, "Even a Tree Can Shed Tears" is a better and more diverse introduction to its subject, whereas this comp is more like an excellent and focused mixtape.

There are copies with bad sound and others that sound is good. Bad copies are being returned to the distributor. You should listen to the copy before buying it.
