This second volume of the Portuguese Deep Frequencies maintains the high level set by the first. The overall tone is dark and brooding and whatever the genre: dubstep/garage/experimental there’s certainly no lack of bass here – whack on Baduga’s “A Light in the Darkness” on a good system and wait for the bouncy bombs to drop, if you can put up with the wailing pipes.

It is perhaps this that separates it from a great release; the small niggles. “Kumulonimbus” shows a lot of promise in the intro before the clunky awkward drum pattern comes in, and the glitch d&b "Era Moovin'" uses a bit too much repetitive sampling. But there are some great ideas here, the Ikonika/Starkey like “Dive”, "Nebula" and its journey through the clouds, the dark stepper with its curious drum pattern “Team 10”, and the bluesy “Twists & Turns” being just a few highlights, the latter being my favourite on the release.

Overall a great showcase of Portuguese talent showing their creative and intelligent take on dubstep.
