This must be one of the most flamboyant mixed-format hiphop releases ever, compiled back in 1997 when Rawkus was a true NY underground label. Listening to this mix, you can almost smell the sweat of the performing MC's and the savoury atmosphere of the studio. You've been so professionally fooled believing this is a "live" performance - all the MC's waiting to take the stage and being lined up against instrumental tracks. If I'd have to include only one hiphop release in the time capsule, this would be it. Absolutely brilliant selection of tracks, superb mixing and a fine-tuned buildup from Evil Dee. Later Rawkus compilations like Lyricist Lounge were very very good, but really never up to this. Pure genius and Love for hiphop.
