Jonathan Elias wrote a dynamite electronic instrumental score for Tuff Turf. Sadly, no score is featured on the soundtrack, but at least there are two great songs written by Elias there; Breakin The Rules sung by Lene Lovich and Love Hates sung by Marianne Faithfull, both showcasing Elias' tasteful and exciting synth work. Elias is also involved in several other songs here, but they are less interesting. Southside Johhny's Tuff Turf is trying hard to sound like Bruce Springsteen, while Jack Mack And The Heart Attack clearly have listened too much to James Brown, in the midst of their blues and rockabilly elements. The Jim Carroll Band also perform three peculiar tracks.

There are really only two tracks I would want to play again here, but those two are indeed classics. Also, let us hope that one day the score by Elias will see the light of day on CD.
