the continentals have a harmony accentuated by the high end of the tenor and lead vocalist and the album is engineered in a way that really emphasizes it. the track list is perfectly arranged and really takes you on a journey with the opener 'everythings coming up roses' having one of the longest and most technical tags ive heard anywhere. largely due to the lyrical content, the next two tracks lull the listener into a darker world, things pick up a bit for 'lone prarie' lyrically but some melancholy remains. that track, also performed by their contemporaries Auto Towners is taken to another level here with some creative sound effects from the skilled vocalists of the group. things turn to smiles with 'down by the riverside' and continue to the opener of side B, 'on a wonderful day like today' which is marvelously done. while bits of side B are more forgettable, the album closer brings some serious brevity and power to bear on the epic which is again internally arranged by the groups previous tenor. a great album with an excellent song selection and fitting engineering to boot - dont miss it!
