Split decision on this one, at times the record shows a very original and sensible approach, combining folk rock abilities with strong lyricism. The rock part played is elemental though, at times even monololithic and heavily synthetic as result from the usage of some kind of electric drum set that gives that awful taste to the sound, a romantic set of lyrics that wanders between the love for the soil and rebellion against predominant morals (how romantic), powerful guitar hooks but strongly filled with pop influences and then comes the epitome of awfulness from the voice section, alas! it is as if Tony Wakeford, Patrick Leagas and Dave Roberts would be melted and fused in just one entity giving us this gothic-frankestein false baritone kind of vocalization that sounds completely wasted and badly put along with the music!
Comparatively strong and somehow original for the epoch it was made into, finally gives an insight on how neo-folk was conceived and cooked in typical and massive rock ideals, college rock sound, gothic backgrounds spiced with folkloric tints and chauvinistic sensibilities.
Clearly a work that displays a band in formation, constituting a sound and thematic with a set of songs that will serve as an historic testimony but not as something musically relevant.
