Same experience here. It's off-centered, warped and got lots of surface noise. Such a pity. Stay away from this one!

it is VERY disappointing to buy vinyl from this label because the quality is so POOR. Even after a professional cleaning this is VG+/VG. this lovely music is done a huge disservice by MERGE's non-existent quality control with ALL of the pressings it churns out these days. A1 has many flaws upon playback that piss me off when sitting back and trying to enjoy the lovely dynamics of will's compositions. pops/ticks inner track noise all take away from the listener's experience. when the pressing is not pissing me off with its glaring defects, it is a glorious ride - but the noise is ultimately disturbing for me to hear constantly. it looks like Merge Records blew their money on packaging (nice glossy outer cover and inner sleeve) and forgot the most important part - the quality of the sonics - and its not the mastering job done by Nashville Record Productions (who do not offer pressing services) because it sounds wonderfully 3D, for example the birds on "the great unwind" and all the stereophonic goodness throughout. i'm done buying vinyl from MERGE. i hope Will re-issues all his merge releases on another label one day in the near future - a better label. one that respects vinyl pressing sound quality.

"modern country" is will's bet effort yet imo. leading the pack which include such greats as Marisa Anderson; Daniel Bachman & RYLEY WALKER - william tyler has created a timeless piece that is destined to be listened to again and again this summer (f'n defects and all).
