Mother Earth (2000) marked the beginning of the great success for the Dutch symphonic metal band Within Temptation. Not directly, because it takes a while for the general public the Group – and the cd – picks up. Important factor for the success is the single Ice Queen. Radio station 3FM makes it to mega hit, after which the final breakthrough follows. Ice Queen reached the second place in the Mega Top 100 and Mother Earth comes again the album lists within: this time gets the third place and is Platinum. Many appearances on Dutch and European festivals follow, after which the success is slowly spreading all over Europe. Mother Earth sounds to the genre pretty accessible, dark grunts have largely been replaced by celtic influences in melodious songs full of exciting atmospheres. Singer Sharon den Adel is with her clear voice and spectacular dresses on stage both on the plate as the focal point of the band, which only gradually but would be more popular.
