This Cycle is a deep trance monster! Had me ride on a curved 5 dimensional spacetime in another universe. Love those trippy tracks!

This [Cycle] is a great track for any year, let alone 1994. One of the best tracks of 1994 IMO. This type of Goa Trance is very rare. Rare because it goes deeper than most Goa Trance and has a deep, mysterious complexity that only several artists have managed to pull off. Planet Ben is one of them and this track definitely has a Planet Ben vibe to it.

A very deep rumble starts out the track that might scare you the first time you hear it on a big sound system, in a sense of "What the hell have I just unleashed" and then it goes deep, trippy, tribal, cosmic and primordial with a very warm and inviting drum note and one hell of a kick. I am a big fan of these types of Goa Trance tracks that are deep, tribal and contemplative and always wish DJ's had the vision and courage to play a track like this in it's entirety even if the dance floor couldn't relate to it and only came for the greatest hits of Goa Trance. One problem.....when you play a track like this, you better have some tracks with depth to follow it if you decide to go deep with this track because this track is the real shi# and will put some shade on the rest of the second and 3rd tier stuff you got in your box. This is one of X-Dreams masterpieces. Maybe better to pretend you never heard this track..........

X-Dream, one of the main pioneers of goa/psytrance, has always had a unique knack for crafting tracks that would later be copied (probably don't need to remind what a huge effect the album 'Radio' had back in the days) or, the very least, they would serve to show where psychedelic trance is heading at.
Their first big hit, and one of the first true goa hits, is of course 'The 5th Dimension' together with Planet B.E.N. But for me they never were so ahead of their time than with 'This (Cycle)' which is a monstrous dark goa track slapping at your face in a modest 150bpm tempo. The track's carrying force is the devastating bassline. Besides that there's always a fine amount of small things happening, giving the track a constant morphing feel. There's also a speech sample saying "This" which would probably make sense looking at the track title. :)
There's no dark goa like this, or at least not that I'm aware of, from the year 1994. I mean the goa scene was just taking it's form that year when these guys already dropped this bomb that could as easily be mistaken for a 98/99 tune. A huge, huge track that would also later appear on the 2nd edition of the album 'Trip To Trancesylvania'.
