Trickness : I'm really pleased that you've said that, as I too think the same way, but I thought it must be my ears. Definitely compressed sounding and not as "open" as the original (which I own). The problem I had with the original is that the pressings (and I tried 2) were really poor, but the sound quality was good. A real shame that this reissue doesn't do this album justice, especially as it was supposed to be "approved by Andy Partridge".

Be careful of the inner sleeves that came with this and Apple Venus 2 - my copy started to develop vinyl rash in the dead wax - thankfully it cleaned up ok and I replaced the inner.

This is a fantastic pressing. Absolutely no surface noise of any kind. Very dynamic.

Top 10 album in any list, a masterpiece, and easily one of the best XTC albums. This reissue is great for those who missed the original edition and don't want to pay exorbitant prices. My copy is a great sounding, cristal clear, dead silent one, and sounds way better than the original CD. Very happy with this....

Well, either my old original copy is a bit duff, or I got an exceptionally good copy of the reissue, but I have to disagree with the general consensus here in the comments. I prefer the sound of the reissue - there’s more clarity and far less surface noise. Well worth the £20 retail price to me.

Very disappointing that Ape couldn't be bothered to match the original gatefold, spot UV packaging. All it does is make the original pressings all the more rare and sought after.

The good: You don't have on vinyl and don't wanna pay someone $100, then great.
Sound is clean. Good press on vinyl.
The mediocre:
Low compressed sound with little highs.
A/B against my original copy and the Cooking Vinyl pressing is loud and beautiful.
Either way this is a greatLP and not to be missed. For $24 on amazon or eBay it IS WORTH IT.
If you can nab the original press... agreed. It is superior!

Sadly, this pressing does this album no justice. Really lifeless and compressed sounding - the original CD absolutely kills it. It should sound beautiful on wax, but it doesn't. Wonder what master they used?
