Xeroderman’s “Semaphore EP” is a complex journey into gloomy, reflective, melodic and nevertheless fragmented and thrilling atmospheres.
Thrilled are the drums, silly and mournful are the melodies, along with buried bass and sparkling synthesisers all in tension towards an unstable state, splitted between apprehension and blindness.
The musical palette counts acid house refrains tilted in the early 90's style (listen to the surprising structure of Dead Of Night) clashing through echoes of Squarepusher's altered jungle, resonant bass circles melted with sick hip-hop elements, sudden rhythm changes dealing with unexpected emotions and unclassifiable feelings, outlining a work centered on uncertainty and the contemporary condition of anxiety, where the nervous turns into hypnotic and the energy reveals a subtle disturbing nature.
No Heroes opens with a sort of march-like drumming, introducing melodies and contra-punctions, all that is going to grow in the next tracks.
The following piece Flow Mullets, is brilliantly screwed around a voice sample, it kicks deep with its dialogue of beats and synth and it’s a perfect ear-catcher!
Geode X is for many reasons a focal point of this EP: minimal, surgical beats twisted with an hypnotic theme, somehow bringing us into a microscopical vision of music and its inner nervous system. It is not by chance this is the track selected for two bonus remixes included with the release: crafted by Bek and Enkephalin, both tracks turns this spout of synaptic geometries into an attempt of quiet recombination. And it looks not by chance as well…
Folia Synesthesia is the single which came out with a video signed by Lisa van Hooydonk, a perfect dose of cutting and staring, definitely catching the general state and the borderline feelings of this music: it starts synthy and mysterious until it gives rise to a rush of crushed beats, a true masterpiece tale of urban displacement.
Wether this Semaphore EP is a red or green light get ready to go and get ready to twist, Xeroderman will drive you out of Breakcore and push towards neural music!
