Treasured vinyl. Of this limited, numbered box set, mine is no. 1165. Til death us do part.

In my experience, Simply Vinyl pressings can be truly hit or miss for sound quality. With that said, this set, in addition to Volume 1, has incredible depth with lifelike, foundation-shaking bass and snapping highs. I have never heard the B+F original pressings but Simply's pressing is cut beautifully and is dead quiet to boot. If you come across either volume, don't hesitate in picking them up as they are worthy pressings to one of the most essential reggae sets one can have.

As an addition to what I wrote previously ,like an idiot I cut up the box the discs came in so I could fit the lps in a plastic sleeve ( for easy access ) and cut out some of the images from the booklet to put with my 'home made' CDs .but still got the music & that's what really counts . Blood & Fire as a label did much for 'classic JA sounds' - & the effect was other companies upped the quality & had to find some equally good recordings ,& the quality reissues & rereleases are now vast .i think though with all the great B&F releases this was their high point - as they largely stuck to dub releases or vocal/DJ ,sometimes to their detriment( Termination dub was released 3 years before the lambs bread international - when the quality of these G Brown productions would have made a great combo). Pressure Sounds would often mix dubs, various vocals, different takes etc.its sad in a way to see some of the old B&F releases being 'sold off' cheap.

I bought the 4 lp box set when it was released & I don't think it was particularly expensive for the time (I think just under £30- ,the Pick a dub,Dub gone crazy & a few other single Blood & Fire vinyl releases I got around then were around £10?) although with hindsight I wished I'd got the CD-as with a laptop I could 'version' this with various other discs tracks,For those thinking of buying CD or vinyl I would say it's the best Roots& Dub collection I can think of - with excellent sound quality- hopefully VP (who are repressing some of the B&F discs) will reissue this ,in my view essential compilation

Great collection of tunes from the deep archives on Yabby You. This release (on vinyl) caused an almost devastating effect on the labels company. 'Blood and Fire', a reggae soundsystem in the UK, started to compile records with hard-to-find music and albums and put them out with great documentation and artwork. But this release almost caused them almost a financial disaster. It was an expensive product, to produce and to buy. It almost put an end to their label activities. Since then they're only selling the cheaper to produce cd's and no longer vinyl cuts. Though the 'Simply Vinyl' label reissud it on two part sets some six years later and many other of their catalogue. Still this, and all the others by the way, is a must have.

One of the most crucial B&F compilations, if also one of the most obsessive - no less than five versions of 'Jah Vengeance', for instance, follow the original at the close of the first CD. This is one reason why it's so great though - few other collections give you the chance to see rhythms evolving into so many amazingly diverse and subtle new forms, especially in Tubby's hands. Dillinger's version of the Vengeance rhythm, 'Freshly', is probably the deepest bit of dub Tubby ever produced, absolute genius and well worth the admission price by itself.
