Mick Karn Play the bass on The Rhythm Divine. So there is no way around it. If you collect Japan, you need this in your collection.
You can't actually hear him play, but the text says that he does...

No other band could lay claim to having "electro, synth-pop & latin" as its three defining genres - and that doesn't even scrape the surface of what Yello was, or is. When no genre or style aptly fits an act, I have to use the word "eclectic", and that is exactly what One Second is. An amalgamation of influences, with pounding drums, emotional vocals, downright evil backgrounds and completely zany, crazy and fun experiments in music production. Yello always was well beyond the constraints of a typical pop act and One Second exhibits this blatant disregard for standards as well as any of their releases. It may not have a monster hit like Stella did, but it is quite a bit more advanced and detailed than its predecessors. The Rhythm Divine will probably go down as its most popular track but it's only one slice in a very rich, decadent pie. Listen from beginning to end and scratch your chin wondering how you could even try to have an ounce of the creativity that these two Swiss gents have. Aural bliss!

The album with the collaborations, very little vocal input from Dieter Meier...It sounds a bit more of Boris Blank flexing his muscles here...I wouldn't say this is my favorite release they have put out, but it's the most well produced...the production shimmers here, a very crisp electric sound that is very human and theatrical...before this it wasn't so much more than anything other than electro-synth-pop, but this album marks a maturer Yello, and unlike the prior albums, one that is the least bit dated from the rest.

The music here is wide-range, it combines worldly influences, those of french and latin for starters...and the songs themselves range from synth-driven rock numbers, to sappy but flattering ballads, to well crafted instrumentals...all together definetly an album worthy as a soundtrack for a film that never took place

What a classic this album is! Yello's spacious, beautiful pop sounds with a sensuous latin feel. From the shaking and grooving 'La Habanera' through to the hauntingly beautiful 'The Rhythm Divine', through to the noisy, growling and enigmatically titled 'Si Senor The Hairy Grill', there's something for everyone and every track delights. Buy it today!

In this day of "pretend" innovations like adding a kick drum to an existing '80s track like "I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)" by Hall and Oates or grafting a bunch of noise together and calling yourself a "producer", one may wonder how innovative an '80s band could possibly be - but rest you assured, friends, Yello is a thousand times more innovative than any of today's "pretenducers"! I say it all the time, but hey - truth is truth - innovation is DEAD in today's electronic landscape. There may a handful of well-produced tracks coming out every few months or so, but none match the level of sheer invention that Yello was coming up with in the 1980s. You simply must check out this album if you want to hear sounds (and/or "songs") that are as fresh now as they were in 1987! These tracks could just as well have been just released. This album is timeless in many ways, and the musicianship of these guys never goes out of style. This rates a fifty on a scale of one to ten, and that's conservative. Did I mention the element of variety? Several styles ranging from light and airy to hard and pounding are explored, and all done remarkably well. If you want a taste of something larger than life and completely timeless and well, perfect(?) - give this album a listen! One of the best of all time for many many reasons. Do check it out!
