This is my favorite record of all time. Equal parts tender and fierce, this record challenges me as much as it entertains. Ira's shimmering guitar lines crackle with subtle complexities. Georgia's drumming is right in the pocket with James' hypnotic baselines. I've been getting lost in this record for years and every time I listen I find something new beneath the carefully crafted sonic layers. The songwriting is meditative, intimate, personal, and immediate. Pablo and Andrea is an absolute gem of a pop song. The virtuosic guitar solo on My Heart's Reflection equally melodic as it atonal. Tom Courtenay should be THE anthem of awkward indie kids everywhere. This record somehow manages to find balances between contradictions - harmony and dissonance, simplicity and complexity, chaos and order - and makes you believe they were never opposites in the first place.

I know on the back of the actual LP is says "Flying Lesson (Hot Chicken #1)" is only 3:11, and that's what's listed here - but I just digitized my copy of this record and it clocks in at a solid 6:39 for me. A YouTube rip has it at 6:41 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wybvTobu-k) and the iTunes Store has it as 6:41 as well - not a big deal I guess, unless if you're DJ'ing out and think you have a 6+ minute song to piss and/or have a smoke, lol. Would love a sanity check from someone else who has this though.

I don't know about you guys, but every single press of Yo La Tengo I get is sub par. I have four different albums on vinyl so far and they all have reoccurring pops and clicks in localized areas.
