The Discogs Community Cataloged Over 750 Million Releases in Their Collections

The Discogs community just surpassed a new milestone in music collecting. Together, we cataloged 750 million releases using the Collection tool, which helps us categorize, organize, and estimate the value of the music we own.

Because thousands of different collectors are represented among the 750 million items, we dug into the data and found some compelling insights into what we’re all collecting.

What does the average collection look like?

Discogs is home to collectors who obsess about their favorite music (the largest collection has 630,000 items) and seek out unique formats (only one Sabamobil has been cataloged). On average, though, we boast 200 releases valued at about $320 USD.

Who do collectors prefer: The Beatles or Taylor Swift?

Both. The Beatles are the most collected artist of all time – an astounding 4.7 million Beatles records come together in collections across the world. However, the trend is shifting toward modern artists in recent years. The five most collected records released since 2020 all belong to Taylor Swift, demonstrating wild adoration among Discogs collectors and the larger vinyl community.

This was just a sneak peek of some of the most interesting details. Check out the Discogs Discogs for the full story and even more fascinating facts about collecting.
