Los Angeles has been devastated by widespread wildfires, and Discogs members may be hit by infrastructure outages, evacuations, and even loss.
Our hearts go out to everyone impacted. Your safety and well-being are the main concerns of the Discogs team and the rest of the community.
Now is the time for us to come together and support our fellow collectors, record stores, and artists. With your help, we can have a real, positive impact.
Discogs’ sales revenue from Friday, January 17 will be donated directly to MusiCares. That means that every record you purchase on Friday will generate funds that will be shared with LA’s music community.
MusiCares is a non-profit branch of the Recording Academy helping people in the music industry with health and recovery services, as well as programs for financial literacy, affordable housing, and much more. For those in LA, they are raising funds for “evacuation and relocation costs, instrument replacement/repair, home damage, medical care, mental health services, and other essential living needs.”
“Please encourage your music industry colleagues and friends that have been impacted by the fires to contact MusiCares, now and in the weeks to come,” the organization urged on their social channels.
“The resilience and generosity of the music community are truly inspiring, reminding us how powerful we can be when we come together. This Friday, every record purchased will support independent sellers and small businesses worldwide while also helping a wonderful nonprofit dedicated to rebuilding and uplifting LA’s music scene. Let’s turn our shared love of music into meaningful action for those who need it most,” said Jeffrey Smith, Discogs’ Vice President of Marketing.
If you have the capability, please consider joining Discogs’ and MusiCares’ efforts to provide relief and resources to those in need.
We are providing a grace period for all Discogs members in Los Angeles and the surrounding regions to have adequate time to provide updates, respond to buyer and seller messages, or ship orders.
If you do not receive an immediate response on your order, it may be due to these circumstances. The scope of this devastation is unknown and we must be patient and empathetic.
We will continue to watch the situation in LA closely and update this space with more information as needed. If you have a specific question or concern, please reach out to Discogs Support and we’ll respond as quickly as we can.
Thank you to everyone for their compassion and understanding. To those affected, our thoughts are with you, your friends, and your families. We hope you stay safe during this challenging time.
