Discogs Rolled Out New and Improved Artist Pages

The Discogs Database is a crowdsourced discography destination that serves as one of the most trusted resources for music collectors, sellers, researchers, and casual music fans alike. Artist pages in the Database are your gateway to exploring your favorite bands’ albums, credits, and more. This year, Discogs rolled out updates to the Artist page that include a more intuitive layout and better filters.

We are committed to creating the best experience for those discovering, researching, and cataloging music. These enhancements mirror recent upgrades to the Master Release and Release pages, which represent the albums and specific versions that artists release. Because of these changes, we can continue to pave the way for future improvements in the Database.

What’s New for You?

Simpler Way to Find Music

The Artist page features a lot of information. The new tab structure breaks out an artist’s Discography from Reviews, Videos, and Lists that feature the artist, making it easier for you to learn more about their work. Under the Discography section, select Advanced Filters to refine the releases surfaced on the page by album title, country of release, and company (like the artist’s label). And if you know exactly what you’re looking for, you can use the search bar to dive deeper.

Detailed Categorization of Credits

Look for the Credits selection on the left side of the Discography view. Here, you can explore all of the credits attributed to the specific musician or individuals in the band, from vocals and instrumentation to production. This more detailed section allows you to filter and cross-reference various roles.

Faster Load Times

Discogs wants to deliver the info you’re looking for as soon as possible. It may not be noticeable at first, but this new Artist page will load more quickly, saving you time on your expedition through the largest recorded music database in the world.

When Did These Changes Occur?

Discogs planned a measured rollout of the new Artist pages. In June 2023, we launched an extended beta test that allowed us to resolve bugs and incorporate user input. This means that some people had early access to the new artist page layout and provided feedback to the Discogs team. Thank you to everyone who participated in the beta test. The rollout was completed in October 2023.
